What is Depression?

In: Disease and Lexapro

Depression (from Lat. - Suppression, oppression) is a mental disorder, which can bring people out of emotional balance in a long time and seriously degrade the quality of life (work activity, personal relationships, etc.).

Often, depression arises as a response to trauma or adverse event (death of a loved one, loss of employment). Depression, or morbidly depressed mood may be as an independent disease or a manifestation of many other diseases. Healthy people also may have depressed mood. Depression is one of the most common mental disorders.

You need to know that depression in all its manifestations is a disease that should be treated, otherwise it will take a prolonged duration. In addition, patients with this disorder often have thoughts of suicide. But despite such thoughts, the patients are so weak they can not find enough physical force to implement these ideas. They can do this when their depression becomes a bit weaker.

Early treatment of depression in most cases leads to complete recovery.

Lexapro (Escitalopram) is an antidepressant that is used to treat depression.
